Role description:

The person in this position will manage various tasks related to group insurance underwriting, in particular assessing risk and pricing of Group Life, Short term/Long term disability, Health, Dental and other ancillary benefits. You will apply insurance underwriting standards for applications with a high level of complexity and provide high quality of service to the sale and maintenance of clients with various funding arrangements.

Key Responsibilities:

o    Proactive in managing client requests and develop a clear understanding of the clients’ needs

o    Ability to achieve well analyzed and supported Underwriting recommendations for balancing profitability and business growth

o    Proactively share results and recommendations to senior management executives in concise manner

o    Oversees risk selection and pricing decisions for large size groups while establish risk selection and pricing on VIP clients in collaboration with Team Lead and Manager

o    Work with Junior Underwriters to prepare renewal/quotes for large or complex cases

o    Oversees and review financial reporting for large VIP clients

o    Establish strong working relationship with our Sales team and work in collaboration to acquire new business and sale renewals to existing clients

o    Process all assigned work in accordance with departmental service standards

o    Propose innovation ideas and process changes to optimize client services delivery

Qualifications:

o    Comfortable making decisive and informed decisions/recommendations through value added analysis

o    Active critical thinking and solutions oriented

o    Skilled negotiator

o    Experienced in prioritize tasks in a multi-tasking and fast paced business environment

o    Detailed oriented and highly organized

o    Strong desire to work with numbers and data in conducting various analysis

o    Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills

o    Ability to work independently and as part of a team

o    Proven knowledge of MS Office tools, specifically MS Excel

o    Bachelor’s degree related to accounting, business, finance, computer science, actuarial science or mathematics is considered

o    Strong understanding of Group insurance concepts, products and contract provisions with over 5 years of group underwriting experience

o    Industry courses taken and/or designations achieved would be an asset (i,e; LOMA or CEBS)
